Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Controller to become a vital leader at Masaka Creamery. As Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting functions, manage the preparation and presentation of financial information, design, implement and maintain accounting and internal control systems, and oversee departmental employees. Working with other leaders in the company, you will handle key decisions and challenge, negotiate, and influence the growth of the business through a critical period of growth.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

The main objective and responsibility of the position is to: (1) lead the finance department as you design, implement and maintain rigorous accounting and tax compliance systems, and (2) prepare, analyze and present excellent financial reporting packages to leadership in order to protect and catalyze financial health as the business scales. Supporting activities toward this end include, but are not limited to those below. Candidate should also review online job descriptions for

  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the organization
  • Take immediately responsibility over existing accounting personnel, systems and activities, including absorbing all activities currently being performed by the Executive Chairman
  • Bring the company’s Quickbooks accounting up to date by completing all booking and reconciliation activities for the first half of 2022
  • Design, implement and maintain a monthly-close process with clear activities, responsibilities and deadlines; ensure quality and accuracy of all financial information
  • Manage all accounts payable; ensure proper follow up and payments from credit customers; work with clients as needed to resolve payment issues; suspend new sales to delinquent accounts
  • Compile monthly reporting packages; present to company leadership on a monthly basis
  • Review, improve and maintain all tax compliance systems; submit accurate annexures ahead of schedule; stay abreast of tax and regulatory changes
  • Review, improve and maintain payroll processes, ensuring accurate a timely payments for company employees
  • Ensure that all financial policies and procedures are being followed; revise and implement updated policies as needed in order to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Ensure the authenticity and proper organization of all relevant accounting documentation
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end reports, including preparation of year-end tax documents
  • Direct and assist auditors in the completion of the annual audit
  • Other activities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with Quickbooks and other accounting software
  • Experience managing and developing a team
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of financial accounting for a Rwandan company
  • Bachelors (required) and/or Masters (preferred) in relevant field
  • 5-10 years or more of relevant accounting experience

 

Compensation & Working Conditions

  • Compensation: Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Paid Leave: 18 working days per annum
  • Travel: Candidate will work primarily from the company’s offices at Plot G5, Kigali Special Economic Zone, Kigali, Rwanda
  • Duration: Seeking a minimum initial commit of 24 months
  • Reporting: Candidate will report to the CEO and to the Executive Chairman as well as work collaboratively with other department heads and team members; Candidate will manage existing accounting and administrative personnel
  • Expenses: Candidate shall be reimbursed for business related airtime, transportation and other authorized business expenses
