Background

Strategic Buyer

The Strategic Buyer will be based out of the PSI’s office in Milpitas, California. This position will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day purchasing/planning and administrative tasks. The tasks will involve supporting functions for the Manufacturing, Engineering and Finance departments.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for exploring new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery.
  • Order placement for vendors as assigned by management.
  • Confirm and expedite delivery of purchase orders as necessary.
  • Provide order lead time guidance to Customer Service and Planning as required.
  • Provide product non-conformance resolution.
  • Develop strategic sourcing plans and summarize risk assessments.
  • Complete necessary ERP transactions as required for Purchasing job functions.
  • Assist Finance with resolving invoicing discrepancies.
  • Work with Engineering on product design and validation.
  • Ability to negotiate pricing for supplies.
  • Coordination of engineering and supplies, including cost reduction activities.
  • Provide continuous improvement recommendations.
  • Supplier performance management as related to quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Support resolution of commercial issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3-5 years’ experience within a strategic procurement role.
  • Experience working within make-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Great verbal and written communication.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to multi-task.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • APICS certification.
  • Global sourcing experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems like Great Plains.

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to look at computer monitors for much of the workday.

 

Work Environment

  • Approximately 90% Office Setting; and
  • Approximately 10% Light Industrial – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities.
  • Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
