About the Job:

The Summit AVL Installation Technician is responsible for executing various AVL installation tasks, low-voltage technical practices, and large scale rigging/hanging of equipment across a wide range of projects. Because of our nationwide reach, this role requires high amounts of travel. Because of the extensive scope of our projects, overtime is required and rewarded with OT compensation and additional time off. It is a win-win! 

Our AV Installation Techs are based in Colorado and travel up to 32 weeks a year on projects, typically lasting two weeks at a time. Our office is located in the metro Boulder area. When working locally, you may be commuting to job-sites within 35 miles of Summit HQ.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing equipment: Loading/unloading, organizing, unboxing & labeling

  • Audio Installation Work: building of racks and wire termination; Hanging/rigging flown speakers; mounting ceiling speakers; Soldering floor pockets; setting up and wiring stage equipment.

  • Video Installation Work: mounted or flown LED walls; high profile projectors and screens; routers and switchers; distribution equipment; floor pockets; camera systems: video engineering equipment; production communication equipment; building of racks and wire termination; deployment of flat-screen displays and their mounts; extensive digital signage systems; build-out of control rooms and their furniture; conference room technology systems.

  • Lighting Installation Work: Hanging, cabling and addressing lighting fixtures; building of racks and wire termination; installing architectural control stations; hanging and mounting distribution equipment; floor pockets.

  • Rigging Work: Using gripples and attaching safety cables, aircraft cable fabrication, securing clamps, bolt and thread assembly, and basic unistrut methods. Under close supervision engages in Timber, Concrete, Drywall and Masonry rigging methods; wall mounted/flown speakers and projections screens; Curtains, both track and dead hung; rigging and operating chain motor/manual hoists; Hanging/Wrapping Lighting and/or LED Truss Heavy Duty rigging.

  • Restocks and maintains installation carts, tools, and supplies, makes repairs when necessary

  • Transports installation materials & equipment from the Summit warehouse to job-sites across the US 

  • Loads & unloads project trailers, supports Foreman in preparation for projects, attend project Kick-Offs


Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of Wire Pull, Terminations, Rigging, various AVL Field Install tasks, constantly works to build a more advanced skillset to proficiency.

  • An understanding of Technical Drawings at an basic-advanced Level

  • Ability to test & troubleshoot systems at a basic Level (Continuity & pass/fail Testing)

  • Follows through on commitments with Team Members, Customers, and themselves.

  • Creative problem solving and solutions driven mindset.

  • Takes direction well, and assumes full responsibility for their work, while looking for opportunities to proactively identify additional tasks.

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • Maintains up to date OSHA 10 Certification - Summit Provided

  • Aerial Scissors, Boom & Forklift Certified - Summit Provided

  • Up to date DOT physical & Safety Certifications - Summit Provided

  • Maintains valid Drivers License, clean driving record, and the ability to be insured under the company plan.

Job Type: Full-time, Hourly

Pay: The Summit Integrated Systems Install Team offers a unique compensation opportunity. While working on-site, our team generally averages between 55-60 per week; any hours over 40 in a work week are subject to overtime and will be paid at time and a half, Travel time is paid at a full rate. While traveling, our technicians also earn a per diem.

While we can't guarantee that every project will require overtime, it's a common occurrence at Summit. Our techs enjoy the way it increases their total comp. 


New Recruit, Entry-level = Starting @ $17.00-20.00 hourly

Junior Audio Visual Installation Technician =  $18.00-22.00 hourly

Advanced Audio Visual Installation Technician  = Starting @  $21.00-25.00 hourly

Schedule: Project Based / Variable, will frequently be asked to work overtime while on-site, followed by periods of unpaid time off. Hours generally average annually to 1.0 FTE.

Travel requirement:

  • Up to 32 weeks per year, 1-3 consecutive weeks at a time.
