Splash is a leading Brisbane AI company shaping the virtual world of music. With over 128 million plays worldwide, we are developing a new way for people to create, perform and connect with live music using our AI-powered tools and video games. Our mission is to empower a new generation of music producers by creating simple, intuitive, fun music tools, accessible to everyone.

As our Machine Learning team grows, we are seeking an experienced leader to join as Head of Machine Learning with passion for music and artificial intelligence.

Splash brings together cutting edge research on speech synthesis and generative modelling to create powerful tools for producers and music enthusiasts. This role is a key leadership position responsible for architecting, building and deploying machine learning solutions. Our mission is to empower a new generation of music producers by creating accessible, intuitive and intelligent music software.

The role:

  • Work with a dynamic team across user research, design, product and engineering to build new product features that advance our mission: to empower a new generation of music producers, artists and fans. 
  • Prototype new approaches and deploy solutions at scale for millions of users.
  • Continue to develop your expertise across our machine learning stack, as well as leading and mentoring our talented team.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in machine learning, theory, and practice in music, audio or similar.
  • Knowledge of music theory 
  • Advanced proficiency in Python (or similar)
  • Hands-on experience prototyping, deploying and maintaining machine learning models in production.
  • Experience on R&D focussed projects, implementing approaches from papers or conducting robust experimental analyses of a selection of techniques.
  • Experience with model training using python libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Matlab, or Keras.
  • Preprocessing and modelling skills with unstructured data (audio preferred).
  • Experience with cloud computing such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Ability to work on both open-ended research problems and production-ready API code.
  • Passionate about agile software processes, data development, reliability, and focused experimentation
  • Ability to work autonomously when required, and to take initiative with new research activities.
  • Proactive nature, ability to creatively solve problems you face and bring new ideas to the team.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to the wider Splash team.
