About the role

As our technical product owner you will agree business requirements with our CEO and key stakeholders. You will manage our two outsourced development teams to deliver those requirements.  You’ll be responsible for prioritising work before and during sprints, triaging bugs and maintaining alignment across the business and between the two engineering teams. You will also complete user acceptance testing in collaboration with other business stakeholders.

You will work closely with our CEO, CMO and Head of Content to fully understand product strategy and vision and provide guidance on implementation, impediments and technical feasibility. 

This role reports to our CEO.

What you’ll do:

  • Agree product requirements with the executive team

  • Mange the dev teams

  • Ensure the product is stable and secure and adheres to best practice

  • Monitor site and app performance and optimise

  • Full budget responsibility and planning

  • Own and prioritise the product backlog and roadmap

  • Develop user stories and define acceptance criteria

  • Clearly communicate product vision and requirements to engineering

  • Set sprint goals

  • Define user acceptance tests

  • Plan releases

  • Follow progress of work and address production issues during sprints

  • Communicate progress, risks and plans to the wider team

  • Contribute to strategic product and technology planning

  • Identify areas for improvement and business opportunities from analytics, customer service, customer requests and competitors

About you

If you’re looking to work on a product that’s having a real impact in the world and want to have responsibility for the delivery of B2C mobile and web applications this may be the role for you. You may be a product owner or someone who’s transitioning into the role from a delivery or project management background. Either way you’ll have strong technical experience of product development and an enthusiasm for product design, discovery and validation.

You will probably have:

  • Work experience as a Technical Product Owner or similar role in product/project management (if you’re a CSPO that’s great, but it’s not essential)

  • A technical background with knowledge of software development, web, and mobile technologies

  • Experience working in Scrum environments

  • Experience working with agencies/remote teams

  • Knowledge and experience of Jira or other tracking system

  • Wireframing experience

  • An understanding of CI/CD and testing paradigms/methodologies (TDD, BDD etc.)

  • Experience with setting and tracking metrics (bonus for experience with Firebase)

  • Experience working in a small team and/or with a high degree of autonomy 

You will definitely need:

  • Excellent web and native mobile development experience

  • An eye for detail

  • A passion for helping parents and students

  • A hands on, entrepreneurial approach
