DoD SkillBridge Internship - Construction project Engineer Intern

Internship Title: Construction Project Engineer Intern Location: Myrtle Beach, SC Start Date: Fall, 2022 Requirement: Must be active-duty U.S. Military Service Member who qualifies for participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program. To Apply: Go to www.vets2pm.com/skillbridge Complete interest form **Please put €œConstruction Project Engineer" in the field titled 'If you are applying for a specific internship slot...'** What you will learn: The fundamentals of construction management from both a field and office perspective, how those disciplines support each other and an introduction into building multifamily residential projects in the Southeast with a vertically integrated company. Overview: A Construction Project Engineer for Hawthorne Construction will play an integral part in the success of projects and our company. This person will report to the Project Manager and be entrusted to make day to day decisions that reflect the core values of our company. As a Construction Project Engineer, you will work alongside the Project Manager and the Construction Manager supporting both the field and office. The Construction Project Engineer's diverse skill set will focus on, but not be limited to, the following categories: Preconstruction Coordinate the site layout with our construction team and site contractor Manage any special site requirements fencing, parking, gates, streets, etc Secure pricing and negotiate contracts for site security, temporary facilities, rental equipment Manage all rental items on site equipment, trash dumpsters, porta johns, etc Establish contact with the project utility provider(s) to assist the site subcontractor with permitting, design and scheduling, etc. Learn and facilitate the RFI process with the Project Manager and Construction Manager, suppliers and subcontractors Learn and facilitate the submittal process with the Project Manager and Construction Manager, suppliers and subcontractors Assist with the entire construction permitting and inspections process Perform daily OSHA compliance inspections Assist the Project Manager, Construction Manager and Interior Design team to ensure that all material selections are confirmed on site prior to installation Actively pursue new suppliers and subcontractors to use on our new construction projects Engage in other professional relationships that will be relevant to the success of the project(s). These will include, but not be limited to the following: insurance, safety, lending, legal, property management, ownership / investors Safety Ensure that job safety requirements are understood and implemented by ALL project personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers Continually strive for a Zero Injury site Will coordinate review of trade subcontractor's safety program and SDS information with the Construction Manager Monitor and correct ALL safety hazards as they occur on the jobsite when observed Work closely with our 3rd party safety inspector as well as our insurance representative to establish site €œbest practices € regarding safety procedures and OSHA compliance Maintain current and accurate records as it relates to safety and OSHA compliance (toolbox talks, monthly safety meetings, etc.) Construction Will understand the plans, specifications, schedule and estimate so any issues may be addressed early in the construction process Will understand the subcontractors and their respective scopes of work Will assist with the change order and back charge process as it relates to the project(s) Will assist managing the subcontractor and suppliers working on the project Will work closely with the Hawthorne property management team on close out procedures Will lead the punch list completion effort through effective coordination with subcontractors and our Resident Services team Will assist the Hawthorne property management team on any warranty items that may arise after closeout and turnover of the property Will assist on all construction tasks necessary for completion of the project Will maintain regular correspondence updates with members of the development and construction teams both verbal and written Professional Maintain honesty and integrity in all tasks Mentor and train other employees as necessary Treat all persons on our jobsites with respect and courtesy Monitor spending and be fiscally responsible Always be in compliance with all OSHA standards lead by example Willing to try to new tasks and learn Internship Requirements College degree strongly preferred Team player with all field supervision, project management, company administration and all trade partners OSHA 10 or higher preferred Exceptional organization skills with an attention to detail Ability to remain calm, focused and effective under time pressure situations A self-starter with strong leadership skills and the ability to multitask Believes in ownership and accountability Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Project and Outlook Proficient, or willing to learn, new software such as Procore, Bluebeam and OpenSpace Reliable transportation; willingness to travel to jobsites during internship.
