Director of Housing

Vincent Village (Fort Wayne, Indiana), Full time

Ending homelessness requires building an ample supply of affordable housing and Vincent Village is looking for an experienced leader who will help achieve that goal in Fort Wayne. For more than 30 years, this innovative nonprofit has helped homeless families with children gain permanent housing and self-sufficiency. Looking to the future, Vincent Village is seeking a high-energy Director of Housing who is driven to provide high-quality places to live while also helping the agency grow and serve even more families in need.

The Director of Housing will serve as a key member of the Vincent Village leadership team, working with the Executive Director and other staff leaders to develop a robust inventory of safe and compliant living units that meets current and near-term needs. He or she will also be an effective planner and budget builder, helping the agency identify its most pressing maintenance needs and best places for investment. The Director of Housing will also manage the maintenance staff, in the process developing a high-performance, high-morale team that gets the directions and resources needed to get the job done.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills; an adaptable, resourceful and flexible workstyle; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a highly productive team. Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Leasing, Compliance and Maintenance
  • Property Development and Project Management
  • Planning and Budgeting

Specific job functions include:

  • Assessing property maintenance and capital needs; developing appropriate plan and budget
  • Serving as fair housing officer; developing/implementing policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with internal policies, government regulations and funder requirements
  • Supporting agency real-estate development projects, including assisting in preparing and administering capital grants from HOME, LIHTC, CDBG and other sources
  • Overseeing asset acquisition and project/construction management
  • Networking with community housing professionals

This position requires a bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in property management. Experience with Section 8, LIHTC and coordinated entry as well as certifications in affordable housing preferred. Qualified candidates must possess the following skills: exceptional organization and time-management; strong oral and written communication; and basic math and analysis. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and property management software (e.g. Yardi). Applicants must be comfortable working with diverse populations and passionate about improving the lives of people experiencing poverty or homelessness.

The Director of Housing is a full-time, exempt position; some evening and weekend work will be required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and access to reliable transportation.
