The Position:

We are seeking a skilled and high performing Technical Project Manager - New Product Development for an important role within our growing project management team. Reporting to the Director of Product and Project Management, the project manager will bring a background in project life cycle management work to help drive the organization to a high level of success in introducing new products to the market.    

The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of stage-gate process of New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI), proven skills to manage medium to larger technical projects, and solid risk-management and communication abilities. 

The technical project manager will play a key role in managing NPD projects from stage 1 through to full production release and commercial launch, ensuring on-time delivery for customer project, and developing PM process where needed for continuous improvement.

Each day will be different, yet key responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Implement and maintain New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) process and SOP

  • Plan, set, and control schedule, resources, and deliverables for NPD and customer projects

  • Formulate and execute highly technical program/ project plans in a collaborative matrix environment, and ensure on-time and on-budget delivery with expected quality

  • Lead the cross-functional project team, coordinate tasks, and lead regular project meetings

  • Identify and monitor project risks, escalate and develop mitigation plans to proactively avoid delays and overages 

  • Track and control project critical path by coordinating project milestone reviews including product design reviews and releases

  • Communicate with project stakeholders in a timely manner regarding project status, issues and risks

  • Lead continuous improvement of project management process and develop relevant documents where needed 

  • Monitor and control project progress, and provide regular internal and external status reports 

  • Support cross-functional teams and participate in the “collective” to achieve project goals

What we are looking for:

  • Engineering degree, PMP is a strong asset

  • Proven experience in a PM role managing NPD and customer projects

  • Track record of delivering in a deadline-driven environment, on time and on budget

  • Experience in hydrogen fuel cell and automotive industry a definite asset

  • Dynamic, motivated, results-oriented creative thinker and problem solver who can facilitate good decision-making

  • Able to keep calm under pressure and communicate clearly

  • Working knowledge of codes and standards related to automotive industry and fuel cell

  • Familiar with ISO 9001 & QMS 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in MS Office products including MS Project

  • An asset yet not required – experience with FMEA, FTA, 8D, and 5 Whys
