The Position:
We are seeking a qualified Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to aid in the transition from single production units to low volume production (5-10/year to 50-100/year). The ideal candidate will have a passion for design, team work, and mentoring junior engineers, while also having the drive and commitment to achieve project and company goals.
Task, roles or responsibilities:
Packaging and layout design of Balance of Plant components within Fuel Cell engine
Mechanical component design, development, and documentation components, with a focus on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly
Develops designs based on requirements for medium to high volume production in cooperation with suppliers based in North America, Europe, and/or Asia
Selection process of materials, manufacturing methods, and suppliers based on functional requirements, cost targets, volumes, and timelines
Support procurement process, including evaluation of suppliers and their capabilities, budget setting and forecasting
Assists quality control process during First Article (FA) evaluation and part acceptance
Creates and reviews 3D models, drawings, specifications and related documentation
Carries out other related activities and projects
What we are looking for
Degree in mechanical engineering or registered Professional Engineer Industry experience transferring prototypes into production parts
Strong engineering principles, particularly in manufacturing methods and materials
Good FMEA skills (proven record of implementation an asset)
Experience with GD&T for tooled plastic, cast, sheet metal, and machined parts in medium to high volume production
Previous application of DFMA and VE strategies is considered an asset
Experience in supplier selection and management
Ability to deliver on time and on budget
Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks
The ability to work and multi-task in a highly technical and fast-paced environment
The ability to combine learned knowledge with new concepts from an open-minded perspective to make the best decisions for project success
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Structured problem-solving skills (8D, 5-Whys)
Must be hands-on
Strong oral and written communication skills
Some travel will be required
