It\u2019s almost always the second and third touchpoint that <a href=\"https:\/\/recruiterflow.com\/blog\/drip-marketing-guide-recruitment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gets the result<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Followups are crucial but if done wrong (most of us do it wrong) it hardly helps you convert the candidate. We all have seen generic follow-ups like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just <\/span><b>checking in <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to see<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thought I would <\/span><b>check-in<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>How are you?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No matter how widely they are used, they will seldom get you results. So how do we write follow-up emails to convert candidates better?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a high-performing recruitment follow-up email is less of an art and <a href=\"https:\/\/recruiterflow.com\/blog\/recruitment-email\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more science<\/a>. Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellobar.com\/blog\/call-to-action-phrases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">call to action phrases<\/a> in the follow-up is tailored to achieve this goal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are generally four types of goals when sending out a follow-up email for recruiting activities:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Apply_for_an_opening\"><\/span><strong>Apply for an opening <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here you focus on conversion and making sure the candidate applies to your company <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Grow_talent_network\"><\/span><strong>Grow talent network<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building a talent network is a continuous process and you are always looking out for a great talent who might join your company in the future. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Just_to_catch_up\"><\/span><strong>Just to catch up<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you haven\u2019t been in touch with an awesome candidate and want to share some news or congratulate them on something<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Share_information\"><\/span><strong>Share information<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You want to tell your candidates and prospective candidate some recent news or achievement of your company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Also, check <a href=\"https:\/\/recruiterflow.com\/blog\/factors-that-affect-your-recruiting-email-outreach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Factors that Affect Your Recruiting Email Outreach<\/a><\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_the_context\"><\/span><strong>What\u2019s the context?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Context sets the tone of the follow-up email and it should be in line with your earlier touchpoint. This is the first thing the recipient will read when they open the email or even without opening it (after the subject line). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need to establish the context of your follow-up email to keep them engaged. If you know them through someone, start with a comment or compliment of the candidate from that person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experiments have suggested that humans have a higher recall value for words at the start and at the end. Establishing a context helps you keep the email personalized and the chances of a reply are much better. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some ways in which you can give context:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Referral: I met (person name) last week at (venue name) and he told me some great things about you. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior meeting: We met a few weeks back at (event name or location)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read online: I just read an article published by you on (platform name). Just asking them to get on a call or for a meeting without establishing why you want it, ultimately ends up wasting everyone\u2019s time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your call to action or \u201cWhat\u201d be it asking for a call or a meeting or just sharing some news should have \u201cWhy\u201d with it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, don\u2019t just ask a backend developer \u201cI would love to have 30 mins call sometime this week to explore career opportunities here at Acme Corp.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, say something like \u201cWe are actively hiring for a backend position at Acme Corp and you seem to be an ideal fit for the position. Your current work at Stark Enterprise is related to what we do here. You shouldn\u2019t be so late that the prospect forgets about you. At the same time sending follow-ups too quickly would look desperate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The timing of a follow-up is dependent on the context. Some examples of the timing of follow-up with context are listed below<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Referral from someone: Within 7 days of meeting the person<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Met at an event: Within 24 hours after the event<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read online: There\u2019s no time frame but the sooner the better<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following up on an earlier email: After 7 days but before 14 days of the previous email<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Catch up &#8211; Once in 3-4 months<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_send_a_follow-up\"><\/span><strong>How to send a follow-up?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Followups can either be part of the same email thread or you can start a new thread.
